Here you will find answers to the questions we get asked most frequently about the accounting and bookkeeping courses offered at Livingston Institute of Vocational Training.
We offer the most recent versions of all qualifications.
If you hold a superseded qualification we also offer customised upgrade options.
You can work through the course at your own pace and the time taken to complete will depend on your personal situation. The time taken will also vary depending on your experience and how much you would like to get out of the course.
We have streamlined the training and assessment process so that the Learner Manuals contain all the information required to complete the qualification. Learners who are short of time and need to get their qualification as quickly as possible typically tend to just read the Learner Manuals and then they are ready to start on the assessments, while learners who would like to get more out of the course will spend more time exploring the additional resources containing lots of different scenarios and activities.
The elective units you select can also increase or decrease the amount of time it takes to complete the course.
A good way to get an idea of the workload involved in each elective is to look at the ‘nominal hours’ listed on the ‘Unit of Competency’ page within the Course Information Brochure.
Nominal hours refer to the nationally agreed maximum time you are allowed to complete each unit if you are receiving funding from Centrelink.
More information on the estimated time to complete each qualification can be found in the Course Guide which can be emailed to you by entering your details in the ‘Information Pack’ form on this page.
Yes, if you have completed a bookkeeping or accounting qualification of an AQF level 4 or higher, such as a diploma, but have not completed an equivalent basic to GST/BAS taxation principles in that course, you can enrol in our BAS Agent Skill Set.
The Tax Practitioners Board requires formal assessments for the units FNSBKG404 Carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks and FNSBKG405 Establish and maintain a payroll system. As a result most learners find it in their best interest to complete the assessments for those units rather than applying for RPL. This ensures they meet the BAS Agent Registration requirements of the Tax Practitioner Board.
You can still apply for RPL in the units FNSBKG404 and FNSBKG405, however it’s important to remember if RPL is awarded it will not meet the BAS Agent Registration requirements of the Tax Practitioner Board.
Just let us know and you will receive a ‘Statement of Attainment’ for all the units you have completed. Your Statement of Attainment issued by Livingston Institute of Vocational Training will be recognised by all other Registered Training Organisations and TAFEs throughout Australia.
When you successfully complete your qualification you will receive a Certificate and Statement of Results from Livingston Institute of Vocational Training confirming your achievement. These documents will be issued within one business day of you completing the course and emailed to you.
If you’re an Australian resident, your achievement will also be recorded on your Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Your Statement of Results issued by us will be recognised by all other Registered Training organisations throughout Australia.
Yes, we do offer e-learning so you can access everything you need from anywhere in the world you have an internet connection. All learners enrolled in accounting and bookkeeping courses with Livingston Institute of Vocational Training receive access to our online learning area.
All assessments are competency-based assessments, which include a combination of written questions, short-answers activities and practical tasks.
Once completed you will required to upload them online via your eLearning area.
The Tax Practitioners Board requires that two assessments in the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and Certificate IV in Accounting are supervised whilst being sat, these two assessments are for the units:
- FNSBKG404 Carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks
- FNSBKG405 Establish and maintain a payroll system
If your course includes these units AND you would like to meet the requirements of the Tax Practitioner Board, then you will be required to nominate a suitable invigilator to supervise you during your examination.
An invigilator can be a Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer, Staff Development Officer, Director of Nursing, Justice of the Peace, Police Officer, School Principal or Assistant Principal, Librarian, an Examination Officer from any RTO, TAFE, University or similar Educational Institution or Examination Centre.
Your invigilator should not be a family member, friend or someone that you have a close personal or professional relationship with.
Thanks & kind regards
